Hello All I realize that there are many different approaches to dealing with Anxiety and Panic disorders. I thought it might be helpful for others if we all shared what worked for us. I know many people use meds and/or therapy, but there are many as well that use alternative methods such as hypnosis, meditation, etc. I'd be interested in hearing what works for you. Hoping all are having a stress free day! Olivia

It's taken me a long time to learn how to talk myself down from a panic attack. The main reason I get them is due to the fact that my panic attacks mimic aura's for my seizures, so obviously that just makes me freak out more. I try to calm myself down by slow, deep breaths and positive self talk.
Another thing that helps me greatly is scent. Anytime I panic, I try to smell something pleasant. (Usually citrus scented hand lotion I wear constantly for this reason.) If you smell something during an attack, it can interrupt the brain waves and stop a panic attack. Sounds crazy, I know... but it does work.

I've never heard of using scent to interrupt a panic attack. You can bet I'm going to give that a shot.
