Neurologist vs Epileptologist. Neurologist ~ Educated and trained in ALL neurological/spinal/nervous system conditions Epileptologist ~ Educated and trained in SEIZURE conditions ONLY. You must be reffered by your family Doctor. Although I have been seeing a Neurologist for 26yrs because I also have another condition, My neurologist is familiar with the other conditions and how the differant meds will interact. IMO if you only have a seizure condition, you're probably better off seeing an Epileptologist because they can concentrate on that one condition. Randy

Well.......in theory I agree. However, I think it's still gonna be a YMMV, as in YDMV (Your Doctor May Vary). When my head "blew up", I ended up at a neurologist's office (and a young one, at that). I thought she was really good, but when test after test came back negative and nothing was explaining my episodes (several months of confusing symptoms suggesting either/and MS and seizures), I thought for sure that the answer was to see an experienced epileptologist. The one I saw, supposedly a really good one at the local Uni teaching hospital, was a joke.......and condescending to boot! He actually told me I couldn't have had seizures since a two day VEEG had been negative. No matter that records showed I'd had a status episode of seizures that had been witnessed by the EMS guys during the ambulance ride to the hospital as well as the ER doctors on call that night. I went back to my regular neurologist and never looked back. She did her darndest to figure me out, but I was a hard nut that never did get cracked (she even consulted with Mayo and they said the same thing). She got the symptoms under control-the seizures-and helped me to adjust meds when bumps came along. I moved but chose another general neuro again. Maybe I would feel differently had I not found The Other Forum (is everyone here from there, too?), where I learned more than the epileptologist that I did see knew. I was more my own advocate than any doctor I would trust, if that makes sense.
